The Role of Occupational Therapists

The role of an Occupational Therapist is often misunderstood, but in essence, their primary goal is to support individuals of all abilities in engaging in meaningful activities that form part of their daily lives, ultimately improving their overall quality of life. Occupational Therapists adopt a person-centred approach, focusing on the individual’s unique needs and preferences to provide holistic and meaningful care.

In order to guide their clinical reasoning and ensure comprehensive care, Occupational Therapists employ various practice models. One such model widely used is the Person-Environment-Occupation-Performance (PEOP) Model. This model considers the biopsychosocial aspects of an individual’s life, ensuring that intrinsic and extrinsic factors are considered when planning and implementing interventions.

Occupational Therapists play a crucial role. They are engaged in assessing and reviewing an individual’s functional capacity, conducting assessments for suitable housing solutions, and providing therapeutic interventions to enhance their participation in daily activities.

Occupational Therapists offer sensory interventions, emotional regulation strategies, gross and fine motor skills improvement, upper limb rehabilitation, Activities of Daily Living (ADL) retraining, prescription of low-cost and high-cost assistive technology, and home modifications.

Optimum Health Solutions offers a comprehensive range of occupational therapy interventions. Our services encompass pediatric assessment and therapy, adult assessment and therapy, functional capacity assessments, assistive technology prescription, housing needs assessments, and home modifications. We understand that every individual has unique needs, and our mode of service delivery is flexible to accommodate those needs.
