Diabetes Management
Type 2 Diabetes is a serious health concern. It is a result of your body becoming resistant to insulin. Genetics can play a role, however high blood pressure, being overweight or obese and not having a well-balanced diet also contributes. Every five minutes someone in Australia is diagnosed with diabetes. Half of these diagnosed cases could have been prevented or delayed with changes to diet and lifestyle.
Diabetes accounts for 11% of Australian deaths.
The Optimum DIABETES Program GOALS
Each patient is different however our treatment programs for diabetes focus on 3 main areas:
1.
Diet
Setting a nutritious dietary program aimed at reducing the amounts of glucose and fat in the blood which avoids damage to organs and blood vessels.
2.
Strength
Strength training is especially important, because it improves your body’s ability to burn fuel for energy. This is achieved by changing the way your muscles store glucose and fat.
3.
Aerobic activity
It should be of a moderate to vigorous intensity. This means it should increase your breathing and your heart rate to a point where you can still talk, but you couldn’t sing.
