By the end of the year many people looking forward to enjoying the festive season. For a lot of people, this often involves a lot of eating and drinking! Of course the holiday season is a time to be enjoyed with family and friends, however, it’s important to remember the effect of our choices.
For 11 months of the year, people will train and put in the hard work needed to maintain or achieve their fitness goals. However, around the holiday season, it is common for people to slack off when it comes to maintaining their health. When approaching the holiday season, it’s important to remember the exercise principle known as reversibility. Reversibility is the concept that if you stop working out, you are going to lose the effects of exercise. It only takes as little as two weeks for the effects of reversibility to appear. Imagine exercising for months and months and potentially losing your strength and/or aerobic capacity in just two weeks!
Now, this isn’t to say that you shouldn’t enjoy your Holidays! However, it is VERY important to continue to exercise over the Christmas Period. At a minimum, it is important to maintain your current level of health and fitness whilst still enjoying the niceties that come with this time of year.
Holiday Season is a busy time of year, however, it’s critical that health priorities are not neglected during this time. You’ve worked hard this year to get to where you are at in regards to health, why stop now? Ensure you are continuing with your exercise program over the holiday period so the New Year doesn’t see you back to square one!
