MEN'S PELVIC HEALTH

It’s not something most men talk about.

Leaking after prostate surgery. Rushing to find a toilet. Waking up multiple times a night. Problems you’ve put up with because you didn’t know there was anything that could help.

There is. And you’re not the first man we’ve helped with this.

Our pelvic health physiotherapists work with men before and after prostate surgery, and with any man dealing with bladder, bowel, or pelvic floor concerns. We use real-time ultrasound to assess and train your pelvic floor externally – no internal examination required.

WHAT WE OFFER

Pre-Prostatectomy Preparation

If you’re scheduled for prostate surgery, there’s good evidence that learning pelvic floor exercises before the procedure leads to better continence outcomes after. We recommend coming in 2-6 weeks before surgery so you know exactly how to activate your pelvic floor correctly – before you need it most.

Post-Prostatectomy Rehabilitation

Leaking after prostate surgery is common, but for most men it improves significantly with targeted pelvic floor training. We use real-time ultrasound to show you what’s happening and guide you through exercises that actually work – not just generic advice.

Pelvic Floor Assessment and Rehabilitation

Using external ultrasound, we assess your pelvic floor function without any internal examination. We identify whether the issue is weakness, coordination, or something else, then build a targeted exercise program around what you actually need.

Bladder and Bowel Retraining

Urgency, frequency, incomplete emptying, constipation – these respond well to specific strategies and lifestyle changes. We help you understand what’s driving the problem and give you practical tools to manage it.

Exercise Physiology

For men who need general strengthening, post-surgical conditioning, or ongoing pelvic floor maintenance, our exercise physiologists work alongside our physios to keep you progressing.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. We use real-time ultrasound to assess your pelvic floor externally. Internal examination is not part of our standard men’s pelvic health assessment.
Ideally 2-6 weeks before your procedure. This gives you time to learn correct pelvic floor activation before surgery, which research shows leads to better continence outcomes afterward.
No referral is needed for private or NDIS appointments. If you want to claim Medicare rebates, you’ll need a GP Care Plan first.
Most men notice improvement within a few weeks of starting targeted pelvic floor training, though this varies depending on your situation and how consistently you do the exercises.
